Fall is here and so is the Fall Tour of OpenStudios!

OpenArts Studio #73

Caroline Thompson- OpenArts Studio #73

The fall weather is slowly approaching and OpenStudios is finally here!  With all the events going on with OpenArts there will be four more bloggers to keep you updated on all the action!  We are CU students who will be giving you updates on the events, our experiences at the events and lots of other art related information.

It was another beautiful day in Boulder on Friday and the opening reception for OpenStudios Fall Artist Tour was a hit!  Thank you to all of those who made it! The Boulder Public Library was transformed into an elegant art studio with art on every wall.  Over 125 pieces of art were up for display and people flowed all around looking at the pieces.  There was a great turnout and it was a wonderful way to start off OpenStudios!

All of the artists were there to meet people and talk about their art.  One artist I got a chance to talk to was Caroline Thompson.  She demonstrated her love of art through her enthusiastic explanation of her inspiration for the piece.  She explained that the piece is from her STAX Collection in which she had separate paintings drying one day and she got the idea to stack them on top of each other, creating a sort of abstract sculpture.  This is what her STAX Collection became, “fine art in abstraction, becoming sculpture.”

This was just the start! Don’t forget the Fall Tour of OpenStudios is held on Saturdays and Sundays, October 2 & 3, and October 9 & 10, 2010 from noon to 6 pm at the Boulder Public Library, 1000 Canyon Boulevard.  For more information check out the OpenStudios website at http://www.openstudios.org/.

Find something you love, and buy it! All of the artwork on display can be purchased!  Just look for the OpenStudios Price List at the gallery!  100% of the proceedings go directly to the artist.  Make sure to also check out your favorite artists at their studios!
