Artist Anne Gifford featured at St. John’s Gallery

The public is invited to “Turning into the Light”, an exhibition featuring the watercolor paintings and giclee prints of of Anne Gifford and woodturning of artist Tom Wirsing at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1419 Pine Street, in Boulder.

Show dates: April 2 – June 25, 2010
Opening: Saturday, April 10 , 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Music provided by Anne Gifford, Duffy Keith, and Laurie Dameron

Turning into the Light is an exhibit by watercolorist, graphic artist, and teacher Anne Gifford and woodturner Tom Wirsing. Tom artistically crafts wood, transforming it as he turns it on the lathe into alluring shapes that flow like a river from his hands. Bowls and platters reflect the grains, color, and texture of wood, and each creation is as individual as the piece of wood from which it emerges. Watercolorist Anne Gifford uses light, and like a filmmaker, subtle dissolves as she explores the way in which a landscape can be transformed by memory. Place becomes metaphoric when today and yesterday merge into images that can exist nowhere else except at the intersection of past and present. This show presents limitless imagination in two and three-dimensional form. A musical performance is an added bonus at the artist reception. Laurie Dameron, artist Anne Gifford, and Duffy Keith perform on mandolin and guitar. Laurie Dameron is an accomplished guitarist and vocalist with a broad range of styles from folk to blues and jazz. She has produced three CDs, the first two comprised of original compositions. A seasoned performer, Laurie appeared at the 2008 Democratic National Convention and has provided music for many local arts organizations.

Anne Gifford has been a long-time participant in the Open Studios Fall Artist Tour.
